13 Best Date Ideas Amsterdam
Break away from the boring dinner date format with these Date Ideas Amsterdam for your next date night. Our list below will take you all over the city and explore ideas from art to games to comedy.
Fabrique des Lumieres/Troost – Best Date Ideas Amsterdam Combo
One of my favorite date ideas Amsterdam combos is grabbing a beer at the Troost Westerpark location and heading a few doors down to Fabrique des Lumieres. It is excellent for a first date or married couples. The casual combination of beers at a great brewery in the park and a unique museum where the art surrounds you on every wall in an immersive experience makes for a great night. If the date goes well, you can grab an ice cream after the museum and walk around Westerpark or the Bos en Lommer Neighborhood.
When you enter Fabrique des Lumières, you are transported into a realm where art defies convention. It’s not just about gazing at static paintings; it’s about immersing yourself in a world where every brushstroke and emotion is magnified and set into motion. One of the coolest parts is how they break the painting down into layers and slowly introduce them. It brings an entirely new way of exploring the artwork.
Boom Chicago
Boom Chicago is a renowned improv theater with all its programming in English. The comedians are so talented, and every time we go, we have an excellent time. It is a fast-paced night of fantastic comedy, where the cast incorporates ideas from the audience into a hilarious show. It is fantastic for a group or date idea in Amsterdam Oud West. The bar downstairs also has an excellent vibe for hanging out before or after the show.
Picture Flip Book at Eye Film Museum
One of the permanent exhibits at the Eye Film Museum is a make-your-flipbook. Whether an anniversary or a birthday, it is a great keepsake memory. It captures a short video and turns it into a flipbook printed on demand. The flipbook costs 7.95 on top of the entrance to the museum. The Eye is included in the Amsterdam City Card. Make sure you grab a drink upstairs for a great city view.
Movie Night at Tuschinski Theater
Theater Tuschinski is a hidden gem in the center of Amsterdam. This mid-century modern theater from 1921 is just spectacular. It is part of the Pathe movie chain, but it is my favorite place to watch a movie in Amsterdam since the theater is so beautiful. Make sure you arrive early to explore the theater before the movie starts. Book tickets through the Pathe website.
Glow in the Dark Golf
In the center of Amsterdam is a bar with a glow-in-the-dark mini-golf course (also bowling), Aloha. The trippy course is great for groups or a date night. There is a full bar upstairs, so you can bring your drinks throughout the course. It is a great date idea in Amsterdam, especially in the long winter months. The bar has a neighborhood-friendly vibe, so you can hang out before or after your game.
Film Night at Pleek
Pleek has many summer events that make for great date ideas Amsterdam. They have an outdoor movie series all summer long and live music outside. Their website agenda has all the details for the movies. Their cinema is set up with bean bag chairs in the sand, giving off a cozy, romantic vibe. Tickets are 10 per person, so it is cheaper than the traditional movie theaters in town and has way more personality.
Straat
One of my favorite museums in Amsterdam is the Straat, the street art museum in Amsterdam Noord. The Straat Museum means “Street Museum” in Dutch. The museum is in a massive, converted warehouse in Amsterdam Noord. As you walk in, the larger-than-life street art pieces greet you from every angle. The museum holds over 150 massive pieces, each with its own story. The museum has an inclusive and casual feeling, making it an enjoyable experience to wander around. The museum is so massive that you can completely escape the city’s crowds.
It is a great reason to explore the hipster Amsterdam Noord. A free public boat takes you from Amsterdam Central Station straight over to NDSM. My favorite restaurant close by is Ijver; It has a very cool industrial style, a giant terrace, and great beer and food. The combination of Straat and Ijver makes for a great date ideas Amsterdam to explore a new area of Amsterdam. Moco is another smaller Amsterdam museum that is great for a date night.
Blast Galaxy NDSM
Another idea in NSDM in Amsterdam Noord is the Blast Galaxy. It is a Full 90s Nostalgia Arcade with retro games to keep you busy all night. The best part is that you only pay for the 15-euro ticket to enter, so you can enjoy all the retro games without having to pay for each individual game. We laughed a lot all night, playing everything from Pacman to Street Fighter. Book your ticket on their website before heading over to ensure there is space.
Day trip to the beach at Bloomendal
There are so many day trips from Amsterdam, but one of my favorites is going to the beach. The Netherlands has many coastlines and beaches to enjoy during the summer months. Rent a car for the day with MyWheels or Car Share and check out the many beaches. Bloomendal aan Zee is a beach 45 minutes away from Amsterdam by car, so it is great for a day trip. There are restaurants on the beach, but it is best to pack a picnic and enjoy the day at the beach!
Candlelight Concert
Fever puts on really fun candlelight concerts to make classical music affordable and approachable. Their series of classical concerts features everything from movie composer Hans Zimmer to Queen’s songs. They pick really beautiful venues across the city, so it’s a great way to explore some of the smaller venues across Amsterdam.
Painting Class – Paint and Sip
I love painting, and the guided paint sessions make it fun for any skill level. They are great for date nights or nights with your girlfriends. They have one where you paint with glow-in-the-dark paint as well. Unleash your inner artist or at least laugh together as you paint along with the teacher.
Darts at Oche
I love games on dates to get out that competitive spirit. Oche Amsterdam is a classy dart bar/restaurant. They have great cocktails and pizza to enjoy while you play darts. The boards are digital, so you can play many different games with the dart board. It is a great date ideas Amsterdam for a double date. The staff is friendly and attentive, making for a lovely evening playing darts.
